The production constraint

A French manufacturer assembling glued structural frames relied on fitters to hold a profile in one hand and a glue gun in the other. The bead had to land in the right place, in the right quantity, and in a repeatable pattern.

That method was repetitive, messy and physically taxing. Continuous trigger pressure contributed to wrist discomfort and musculoskeletal risk, while imprecise deposition created adhesive loss and prolonged the cleaning that followed assembly.

A compact cell built around the work

The deployment centered on a table-mounted collaborative arm, a locating fixture and a cartridge-fed dispensing tool. The assembler loaded four profiles, pressed a button, and a cylinder fixed the parts in position before the programmed adhesive path began.

Selection followed the process demands: accurate dispensing, safe proximity to the assembler, a compact footprint and compatibility with the familiar adhesive cartridge. The integrator guided design, customization, installation and operator training, so the cell arrived as a production method rather than an isolated machine.

Work was divided deliberately. The cobot handled the strenuous, dirty dispensing task while the fitter loaded parts, launched and supervised the cycle, then concentrated on precise assembly. Routine service demands were limited largely to replenishing adhesive.

The published case reports capacity of up to 110 glued frames per day. Compared with the prior manual operation, productive operator time improved 20% as fitters shifted attention toward higher-value positioning and assembly work.

Cleanup time after assembly fell 50%. More controlled adhesive placement also reduced material loss, while operators no longer spent hours maintaining pressure on a glue-gun trigger.

The operating rhythm mattered as much as the headline metrics. Adhesive dried while the fitter assembled preceding frames, allowing robotic dispensing and skilled assembly to proceed in parallel.
