a multi-store Asian supermarket chain; one store of about 10,000 sq ft
Autonomous Scrubber Cleans a 10,000 sq ft Asian Supermarket in Three Hours
A grocery store of about 10,000 sq ft was cleaned in about three hours by an autonomous floor scrubber, averaging 5,200 sq ft per hour in aisles.

A busy grocery floor that never stays clean for long
Supermarket floors take more punishment than most commercial floors. Carts, foot traffic and the constant movement between produce, dairy and the meat counter wear down the look of an aisle within hours of a fresh pass.
A store of about 10,000 sq ft gives a cleaning crew a large, open floor with many turns and many zones to cover. Working by hand, that coverage is slow, and the busiest zones are the ones that need attention most.
The operator needed a way to keep the high traffic aisles and the meat section clean on a repeatable cycle, with enough speed to finish the whole store in one working window.
- Cover a store of about 10,000 sq ft in a single cycle
- Hold cleaning speed in high traffic aisles
- Keep the meat section within the same cleaning routine
Placing an autonomous scrubber where the traffic is heaviest
The robot supplier placed an autonomous floor scrubber in the store's high traffic aisles and in the meat section. The scrubber carries a 70 liter water tank, and the machine itself handles docking, charging, water refill and waste drain, so it can return to its base and reset without an operator standing by.
Management follows the machine through a cloud based system that reports data in real time. That gives the store a current view of the scrubber's work instead of a checklist filled out after the fact.
- Place the scrubber in high traffic aisles and the meat section
- Let the unit dock, charge, refill water and drain waste on its own
- Track operation through cloud based management with real time data
Coverage and speed across the whole store
Across the store of about 10,000 sq ft, the full clean took about three hours. Aisle work averaged about 5,200 sq ft per hour, and peak efficiency reached up to 9,300 sq ft per hour in the busiest zones.
These are coverage and speed measures, and they are the ones this study reports. Labor effects are not quantified here, so no savings figure is claimed.
For the store, the practical gain is a repeatable block of floor care that covers large facility space in a predictable window, with the scrubber doing the repetitive passes.
What this means for a store floor program
Service Robot Co. is a full service, OEM neutral commercial robot integrator for US businesses. We select the right robots across manufacturers, then finance, deploy, integrate, train and service every unit through a nationwide US engineer network, so one partner covers the whole lifecycle.
We lease robots only. Customers go through a 3 year lease with one fixed payment, quoted after a site assessment that reviews the floor plan and sets the cleaning zones. Go live support and staff training follow the install, which is where a turnkey robot deployment earns its keep.
Runtime is one of the first specifications to check against a store's cycle. A public buyer guide, checked as of October 2026, lists the Nilfisk Liberty SC50 at up to 6 hours on standard batteries and the Kärcher KIRA B 50 at up to approximately 3.5 hours. Both listed runtimes exceed a three hour cycle on paper, so the final choice comes down to coverage, footprint and service needs at the site.
