Tire-Changing Robot Goes Live in a Calgary Service Bay: Vendor-Reported Speed

A tire-service location in Calgary, Alberta goes live with a tire-changing robot. The vendor claims four tires in under 15 minutes, unverified.

A busy bay with a physical, repetitive job

Tire service is hard, repetitive physical work. Each vehicle means lifting wheels, breaking lug nuts loose and tightening them again, then turning to the next car before the bay sits idle. Trade reporting ties this strain to a broader labor shortage, with shops losing workers to the demands of the job.

The room itself adds friction. Tire bays often run with doors open, which exposes equipment to dust, debris and weather. Any automation has to keep working under those conditions, not just in a clean, controlled setting.

One existing bay, one first install, and a plan for more

The robot supplier installed its automated tire-changing system in an existing service bay rather than rebuilding the space around it. That kept the work moving on a familiar floor plan while the team learned the machine in place.

The system relies on sensors and robotic arms to handle lug nuts during a tire change. The supplier first unveiled its fully automated system for fleet vehicles in June 2025. This Calgary installation became its first production deployment, with more systems scheduled for other customer sites this fall.

The supplier aims its system at chains rather than independent shops. Standardized bay layouts make rollout easier, because each site does not need custom engineering from scratch.

  • Start from a standardized bay layout
  • Install the robot in the existing service bay
  • Move from pilot operation into production use
  • Schedule further installs at other customer sites

What has been measured, and what has not

The headline figure is four tires changed in under 15 minutes. The robot supplier reports that number, and independent timing for this site has not been published.

No uptime, throughput or published site results for the live system have been released yet. Until longer-running data appears, the speed figure stands as the vendor's claim, and any bay weighing the system should measure it again on its own floor.

What is documented is the deployment itself: a first production system, running in a working Calgary bay, with more installations planned. That is a meaningful step for a technology first shown for fleet vehicles.

What a service operator can take from this rollout

Service Robot Co. is an OEM-neutral commercial robot integrator for US businesses. We select the right robots across manufacturers, then finance, deploy, integrate, train and service every unit through a nationwide US engineer network, so one partner covers the full lifecycle.

Our customers take robots on a lease, not a sale. The lease runs three years with one fixed payment, quoted after a site assessment, so robot lease options can be weighed against the real layout and service needs of each site.

This study shows why those questions come first. A vendor speed claim is a starting point, and real throughput depends on the site, the bay layout and the service plan. A vendor neutral robot integrator helps operators compare robot leasing for business on those terms, with deployment, integration and training in the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Not yet. The figure is the robot supplier's own claim, and no independent timing for this installation has been published. Treat it as a target to measure in your own bay, not a guaranteed cycle time.
