Service Robot Co. picks the right commercial robotic mower for your installation, puts it on a three-year lease, deploys it, trains your crew and services it. Bases already test robotic mowing, and the grounds team or mowing contractor keeps the trim, slopes and sensitive areas. Support is 24/7 with 10-minute specialist triage.
Who signs for mowing on a base?
Grounds on an installation usually run through a managed contract, so the person who signs is not always the person on the mower.
- The public works directorate
- Garrison directorates of public works oversee grounds. The page for the Miami garrison directorate points to grounds run through managed service contracts.
- The mowing contractor
- In our read, the contractor that holds the grounds work is often the one who runs the robots day to day. That is why we talk to contractors as well as base staff.
- Base operations support contracts
- On large installations mowing is one line inside a broader operations contract, so the robot has to fit that contractor’s scope and reporting.
- Security and network review
- Connected machines normally go through a security review. We give your office the machine’s connectivity and sensor details early, not after delivery.
What does the robot take?
The robot takes
- Repeat mowing of large open lawns on a fixed schedule
- Night and early-morning passes that stay out of daytime traffic
- A consistent cut height across housing, admin and recreation turf
The crew keeps
- Steep banks, ditches and ground near lakes or fences
- Trimming, edging and cleanup around structures
- Anything near ranges, fuel, flight lines or restricted areas
- Gate and escort rules for the machine itself
What decides fit on an installation?
Questions we answer in the site assessment before any lease is written.
| Topic | What to know |
|---|---|
| Who runs it daily | Base grounds crew or the mowing contractor |
| Areas it can take | Open turf with a clear boundary and a dock location |
| Areas the crew keeps | Slopes, edges, restricted and operational ground |
| Security review | Connectivity, sensors and data paths shared up front |
| Contract route | Your contracting office decides how a lease is written |
| Lease term | 3 years, $1 buyout at the end |
Which bases have tried robotic mowing?
These are reports from the bases and local papers themselves. They are not our customers and we were not involved.
- The Redstone Rocket reports autonomous electric mowers at Redstone Arsenal since March 2026, and quotes a crew leader saying "It can’t do everything." The Redstone Rocket
- Ellsworth Air Force Base’s public affairs office reports testing robotic mowers at night around base lakes. Ellsworth AFB
- The 134th Air Refueling Wing reports a three-year test of a robotic mower at McGhee Tyson, on grades up to 35 degrees. 134th Air Refueling Wing
What does Service Robot Co. do?
We pick the right machine for your properties, put it on a 3-year lease with a $1 buyout at the end, deploy it, train your crew, and service it.
For installations we also work through the grounds contractor when they hold the work, so the lease, training and service land on the team that runs the machine.

Where does it not fit on a base?
We say this before a lease is signed.
Ground that needs a person
Slopes, ranges, flight lines and anything restricted stay with the crew.
Rules we cannot settle for you
Federal acquisition rules on sensors and connected equipment are changing. Your contracting and legal offices decide what applies to a leased machine. We share the technical details they ask for.
Buying routes that are not leases
Some base notices lean toward owning the machine. We offer a lease only, so we will tell you early if that is the wrong route.
