Service Robot Co. helps solar owners and O&M teams pick the right commercial robotic mower for each site, lease it on a three-year term, deploy it, train the crew and service it. We match the machine to your panel clearance, slope and layout. Posts, trays and tight edges stay manual.
Who handles vegetation on a solar farm?
The person who signs is rarely the person who mows. The contract usually runs through an owner, an asset manager and an O&M team.
- Asset owners and investors
- They sign service contracts and set the KPIs. Solar Power World describes them handing coordination to an asset manager or an O&M company.
- Utilities that own their solar
- Some utilities run it in house. Indiana Michigan Power says it uses a robotic mower at all five of its solar farms.
- O&M companies and landscapers
- Mowing is hard to staff, so it tends to land with seasonal crews or outsourced landscapers, per Renu Robotics’ own write-up.
- Whoever reads the contract
- Energy Business Review reports buyers checking service contracts harder as portfolios grow: frequency, coverage and reporting. That piece covers service contracts in general, not mowing alone.
What can a robot mow on solar?
The robot takes
- Repeat mowing between rows and along access lanes
- Steady cut height so growth does not reach the modules
- Scheduled passes you can report against a vegetation KPI
The crew keeps
- Posts, trays and the ground right at the edges
- Spots below the lowest module edge that the machine cannot clear
- Fence lines, drainage and inverter pads
- Spraying, grazing coordination and fire-break work
What should you check first?
Clearance is the first question. Insurance and contract wording come next.
| Topic | What to know |
|---|---|
| Panel clearance | One vendor guide puts the lowest point on fixed-tilt at 18 to 36 in. and some trackers at about 18 in. |
| Height spec in the contract | Tie it to the lowest module edge at the lowest tracker position, per Every Detail Solar |
| Vegetation height | FM Global’s general guidance is 6 in. where irrigation is not practical. Check your own policy. |
| Slope and ground | Walked during the site assessment |
| Who mows the edges | Crew or landscaper, agreed up front |
| Lease term | 3 years, $1 buyout at the end |

What does Service Robot Co. do?
We pick the right machine for your properties, put it on a 3-year lease with a $1 buyout at the end, deploy it, train your crew, and service it.
For solar we begin with the panel drawings and the contract height spec, then walk the site, so the machine we pick matches the clearance you actually have.
01
Pick
We walk your properties and choose the machine that fits, or tell you honestly if none does yet.
02
Lease
3-year lease with a $1 buyout at the end, quoted after the site assessment.
03
Deploy
We map the zones and no-go areas, set the dock and start the routes.
04
Train and service
Your crew is trained. When something stops, one number gets a specialist.

Where does it not fit on solar?
Clearance decides, and some sites fail it.
Low trackers and tight rows
If the machine cannot pass under the lowest module edge, it does not mow that row. AutoAcre says posts, trays and edges stay manual even with a robot.
Sites run on sheep
Grazing and mowing can sit side by side. The American Solar Grazing Association census found about two-thirds of graziers also use other methods, including mowing. We would plan around the flock, not replace it.
Overgrown or rough ground
A robot keeps a kept site kept. It does not reset years of growth. Start with a clean-up by the crew.
